Your 2021 HR Checklist

Prepare to start off 2021 on the right foot. Browse this 2021 HR checklist and reach out to us if you have any questions about how to be compliant in 2021. 

Payroll and taxes

  • Calculate your employee retention credit if you took advantage of an Employer Retention Credit 
  • Complete your PPP loan forgiveness application, if you received the PPP loan
  • Review tax credit provisions under FFCRA and CARES
  • Prepare FICA and FUTA forms
  • Prepare EOY tax filings for W2’s and 1099’s
  • Check IRS guidance on payroll tax holiday if you chose to take it
  • Check ACA requirements for 1094’s and 1095’s and be prepared to turn in reports

  • Audit FTEs for ACA compliance by month
  • Review your health care plans against the new threshold 
  • Review FFCRA paid leave
  • Review FFCRA and CARES COVID testing coverage mandate
  • Review employee benefits package

Compliance

  • Prepare and distribute required compliance notices such as ERISA, 401k, SBC, HIPAA, etc.
  • Audit FTEs for FMLA compliance
  • Review OT pay rules and fluctuating workweeks
  • Prepare for any minimum wage increases
  • Schedule required compliance trainings
  • Check for updated OSHA policies
  • Update your safety guidelines with COVID information
  • Be prepared for the fact that EEO-1 data collection for both 2019 and 2020 is extended to March 2021
  • Be aware of your state laws on “Ban the Box” – 35 states have eliminated the checkbox asking if an applicant has been convicted of a crime (if you are not in one of those states, we anticipate this trend expanding and recommend removing to get ahead)

General HR

  • Review all insurance policies
  • Review job descriptions
  • Update employee handbook
  • Audit personnel files for compliance
  • Move termed files to storage
  • Shred old files and documents
  • Remind employees to update contact information
